Pedro Vasconcelos
Pedro Vasconcelos, a prominent Brazilian filmmaker, has been working on remarkable projects in Brazilian television and cinema for the past 22 years. Two of his most well-known films, both released in 2017, are the remake of "Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands" and the adaption of Fala Sério, Mãe! (Come on, Mom!). He recently filmed O Mágico Di Ó (The Wizard of Ó) which has yet to be released.
Pedro Vasconcelos has also left a meaningful legacy in television. He began directing children's programs, including "Bambuluá" and Sítio do Pica Pau Amarelo (Yellow Woodpecker Ranch), in 2000, before joining the team of directors in charge of "Soulmate." He gradually gained prominence in TV Globo's drama department, undertaking the direction of hits such as "Written in the Stars," "Empire," "Edge of Desire," "Time After Time," and Espelho da Vida (Mirror of Life) marking his debut as an artistic director.
Pedro Vasconcelos also has a background in acting, besides directing, having played significant roles in productions such as "Sweet Creek," "Vamp," Malhação (Young Hearts), Fera Ferida (The Injured Beast), and "The Next Victim.” He decided, however, to focus on using his abilities behind the camera.
Pedro is currently working on the sequel to the feature film Fala Sério, Mãe 2! (Come on, Mom! 2), by Thalita Rebouças, and the series "Land of Shadows", based on the book written by Emmy-winning screenwriter Aguinaldo Silva. The plot tells the story of two Portuguese soldiers who have a forbidden romance in Olinda, in the captaincy of Pernambuco, at the beginning of the 17th century, exploring themes that are typical of the Brazilian colonial period. He also directed the movie biography Mauricio de Sousa: O Realizador de Sonhos (Mauricio de Sousa: The Dream Maker), for Disney+. The documentary promises to portray the entire story of Mauricio de Sousa, the creator of the comic strip "Monica’s Gang".
